Anyone else still waiting for parlour to thaw 🫣🫣 still says -5 here, I drained it right out yesterday but some ice always builds. Was -8 when I got up, one of those days😭
only finished milking half an hour ago, every bloody hose and pipe has been frozen, been nothing short of a pita for the past 3-4 days here :banghead:
the yard is just a sheet of black ice so have to go around with a shovel, hot water and scraper before I dare bring the cows up the ramp and clearing the ice ramp into the yard for the tanker is another job I could do without

Has anyone out slurry channels in lately? I’m waiting for prices from a couple of companies but slow to come.. either price of a section or price per ft laid would be useful..

Try stuff! If it doesn’t work never do it again! Take what’s said here with a pinch of salt 😀
Keep things simple, sounds like your nutritionist has your head frazzled.

I know nowt about farms, farming, cows, and milk production but reading your comments and also just hearing about milk losses in Wales due to the recent weather condition and I found that the information promoted two thoughts.

Tell a general member of the public, a townie, that you had to dump 12,000 litres of milk and he registers very little, other than it must be a lot but tell him that you dumped 12 tonnes of milk and you may wake him up a little.

As for poor yields, I once read that milk yields improved when music was played in the milking parlour.

I suppose you could think of the above as MOOsic! ;)

That's the plan, I've ordered some salt for next time, typically looks like it's getting warmer day after tomorrow. 🤞

When I'm complaining next summer about lack of rain, remind me we only get minus temps for a few weeks each winter as opposed to everyone else up north (devon) 🤣
You can throw just about anything on it and it will help a little. Wood ash, grain, mineral, dry soil from a building. Even soybean meal!

Just a couple 5gallon buckets of sand dug from a free stall will do a lot. We get cows that simply stop and will not cross ice.
