Alternator or wiring?

Did some feeding with case5130 the other day and the rev counter stopped working. No battery light on and fan belt good. Next day the battery was nearly dead so jumped it. 12.5v showing when stopped and running so it's not charging. Battery light not coming on when it's stopped either. I know the rev counter runs off the alternator but why no light? Any advice appreciated.

Bulb blown in the lamp. Alternator won't charge if it is, which could affect the signal to the rev counter.

If you have a good autoleccy nearby they would probably test it foc

You will have a small wire (WL) going to the alternator, if you earth it off the body of the alternator,warning light should come on (ignition ON).

So you can determine whether uts wiring or alternator brushes (£5)

While doing the standard "waggle the wires" test I got clicking from this relay and the two red wires have been arcing and fecked the fittings.(proper fecked now because they have broken off and whole tractor is dead). Maybe the arcing fecked the alternator? Two small wires could be rev counter and light wire? Guessing the relay is knackered but it's like chicken and the egg

the 2 small wires are earth and key switch start
the 2 big wires are 12v live then 12 switched to start the engine

Took that off to remove the broken terminals and left them in place for the pic

There's no sign of heat anywhere other than under the nut when I took it off. The screw on the red wire is just rusty. Brown wire on the left looks healthy

Fixed the bad connections and did this and light on. Trip out tomorrow see if it's a cheap fix or just get a new one. Thanks for all the replies

Open circuit ( whatever that is ) and needing bits that aren't in stock so new one £75 seemed better than another two hours wasted tomorrow

Thanks for the offer. Believe it or not in 9500 hours that's the first part that's ever been fitted but it could be the start of a slippery slope!!
