I had 9 on a phone that broke and wasn't convinced, sticking with 8 on the new one.

You won't be able to record calls on 9 if that's important to you.

This thread's confusing. My s9+ was recemtly updated to 9 from 8 and I hate it. They've fiddled with all sorts of things just for the bloody sake of it. Such groundbreaking stuff as moved the clock from the top right hand corner to the top left hand corner. Also they altered the Always on Display settings so that it wasn't Always on. It took me several days to reapply the correct settings as they'd actually made the crucial AOD setting extremely difficult to find. Icons were made bigger and borders put round them all. I had to install a theme app just to make them smaller again. Most of the fiddling is utterly pointless unless you use some of the most esoteric extremities of the phone's abilities, which let's face it, most of us don't. The list is endless........

The most annoying thing though was that there was no warning that my phone was about to be updated from 8 to 9. I got no choice in the matter.

Anyway, to the OP: your phone will automatically update itself to the latest version of Android for free at some point if you have it set to automatically install software updates. Personally I would advise you to set this to off!!

Really? How do you do that exactly? I've searched everywhere and it can't be done without rooting (?) the phone.

maybe brand specific
