What would a luing do ?

Or make a complete mess altogether ?

South Devon nice type off cow might cross well ?

Saler put a pep in their step ?

@Hilly , we will totally confuse the matter if you leave it with us long enough :)
:ROFLMAO:
Funny you should mention South Devons:
Someone l know who was setting up a suckler herd tried Limousins on South Devon heifers and it was an utter disaster. I wondered at the time whether they would have been better using a traditional Angus bull on them for the first time. I can imagine an Angus x South Devon being a really good suckler cow (?)

I dont know, but i have sold three simmental bulls for putting on A.Angus in the last year . two well known herds in this area. There are a lot of Angus about , but a lot seem to have lost something.

Milk maybe for a start?

Hedge your bets @Hilly , use a Simmhorn

Not a huge fan of AA cows , but crossed with the Simmental has worked really well here in the past. Hardy , fertile , long lasting cows.

That's what I'm doing, south Devon on my Angus cows, 1st heifers (south devon x angus) due to go to bull this autumn undecided what to bull them with, need a third bull, they could all go back to the angus,( not their father), then maybe get a continental next year.(y)

This is our Longhorn bull, we were gonna keep him another year and AI the heifers from him but we would probably let him go if we could find another bull in the next couple of months.

How about Sussex? I still think they are the most under-rated British beef breed. Docile , thrifty, small calves (usually) so ideal for heifers and they always seem to kill out well.

Go for it Hilly, you only live once. i think Longhorns are beautiful cattle, and will make brilliant cross cows for the hill and will add some real length and milk to your herd! Cant wait to see some pics of bull and calfs.

I run 50 pure Angus cows and got a Simmental bull last year to mainly add milk to the cows and bring some vigour to the herd, so far i am over the moon with the calfs, they have all calved easily and grow like mushrooms and look like tanks so thick and easy fleshed with plenty of shape, they have real quality!! i see more and more folk are crossing Angus and Simm the two breeds seem to really click and everyone seems more than happy with the out come!
