Another theoretical question..!

I know this subject has been covered in great detail on here, but if you are selling your straw bales what sizes are most popular? I'm guessing if you sell to a straw trader it doesn't matter to much other than being squares not rounds, but is there an industry standard size for dairy farmers...? Also how long can rounds be stored outside before they become unusable...

It seems to vary with the area. Around here they like 120x70cm because hauliers can get the greatest weight onto the truck within the hieght limits. In East Anglia the straw burning power stations only take Hesston 120x120 ones. Rounds are inefficient in terms of space but the captial cost of the baler is much less plus the bales can be left outside (lifespan varies with material & rainfall)

Plenty of rounds left in fields over here this year as they have no customers. They must be fairly sodden now. Why they didn't chop I have no idea as it would have been a better option.

8x4x3 mostly here as well as rounds. I don't do rounds anymore as just too much handling.
The squares are so much more efficient for clearing fields, stacking and moving. They hate rain though!!!
