We bought a nearly-new (18 months use) 12/12 Westphalia 5 years ago, all singing all dancing, meters, clusterflush, metatron, conductivity, variable speed pump etc although stallwork and feeders were older. Seem to recall they wanted £25-30,000 for it, we did the deal at £15,000 plus of course we paid all dismantling and re-installation. I seem to recall they had had little interest in over 12 months and the owner said 'well I want to sell a parlour, you want to buy a parlour, I'd be daft to walk out of the yard without shaking your hand on a deal.' We gave him a cheque before we left the yard.

Having just tried to buy some and gone through the maths, I bought a new one. It’s replacing the bits that don’t work that fudges it. Dealer charging you to move the computer software etc. Also for me I had a grant and anything over 5 years wasn’t comparable with the new bits ?‍♂️
3months ago I might have been interested and would have offered you about £5-8k

We had no charges re: software licensing, despite being warned (by folks on here) that there would be, unless the dealer hid it in the £8k removal and relocation fee ( was a bit less than this, but he quoted £8k, included all new rubber),

Thinking back, I had to do an upgrade To work with some newer bits and that’s where the problem was. Was that installed, or just deliver to you.

Taken out at the old place about 50 miles, away, and installed at ours. We had to buy new feed augers as the old ones were knackered but everything else. They sub contracted it to freelancers. Chap called Mike from Cheshire who lived on site in a converted flower lorry - living quarters and a little workshop.

Surely it’s paid for itself a few time over after 16 years? .

Would certainly hope so! Yeah - falls fastest at the start - 50% gone in a year on a new one?

I looked at new and second hand a year or two ago. Ended up paying around £10k for all singing all dancing 12:24 with delpro, cluster flush, autoID, feeders, dump line, 3-way seg gate, 150 collars and 8000L bulk tank. £10k to move it plus allow cost of plant again (£10k) in lieu of no warranty. Assume 15 years use with average 150 cows. Assume parlour worth £1k (parts) and tank worth £1k after 15 years. So around £12.50 per cow per year. Didn’t have exact like for like quote for new so assume same set up new £150k (??) and worth £5k after 15 years comes to around £65 per cow per year for the same size herd. At 25 ppl around 200 kg milk per cow per year difference. If my numbers are right (?) then not a huge amount in it. Especially if you factor in peace of mind! Main advantage of second hand for me was less capital/debt required at start up.
