Ex soft fruit grower. I just grow apples now still interested though.
Can't think it would be a busy forum, might be better having threads on here (as long as you don't mention Romanians)

Why is soft fruit so tasteless?
My wife bought some strawberries. Ashamed to say from a supermarket and was rubbish. This was from a local fruit farm. It looked fantastic.

Was going to say it was like eating a neep. But a neeps quite tasty in my opinion.
Modern varieties are bred for appearance which includes uniformity, yield, resistance to p&d and good shelf life. This is often at the expense of taste.

Look for Malling Centenary variety. They have much more flavour than all the other varieties. Particularly avoid Murano If flavour is what you want. Just my personal opinion.
