Anyone disagree ? Superhuman Rishi….

“A minister who has admitted to using cocaine being sent out to announce a clampdown on laughing gas. Totally normal. A home secretary who can’t be trusted to stay on message. Totally normal. A government prepared to break international law by deporting refugees. Totally normal. An environment secretary permanently at war with herself and the farming community. Totally normal. A chancellor unbothered by a 4% hit to GDP from Brexit. Totally normal. A prime minister who finds all the above totally normal. Totally normal.

It’s sometimes easy to forget just how toxic the Conservative brand really is. How low the bar for normal politics has become. So when we come across a prime minister who appears to manage some of the basics – who gets a few things half-right without crashing the economy, lying through his teeth or starting a civil war in his own party – it’s tempting for some to invest him with superhuman powers.”

So not a "law" then and nothing to do with economic migrants which the vast majority of the boat people are. How many times does the difference between economic migrants and refugees have to be pointed out. I'm all for helping genuine cases especially from countries we have being involved with militarily in the last few years but I don't want thousands of Albanians etc of dubious backgrounds and intentions coming here.

As a signatory we are bound by its terms, every bit as much as when you sign a deal to sell corn or whatever

But the ones being sent back aren't refugees they are economic migrants, if you don't grasp the difference then there is no point discussing it. Try rocking up in Australia, NZ the USA or any other country and say you fancy a better life and see how long before you're on the way home.

I have seen closely 2 young men who have rocked up in the states after a better life in the last few years and I know one who is about to go.
But of course they were white so it was not difficult.
In fact the UK is one of the most welcoming countries in Europe to economic migrants taking several hundred thousand a year .
the sad fact is we could do with these people to pick fruit and veg or just wash cars

Yes we might need some workers, but there are legal ways of applying

That's a bit unfair to class all the civil service that way.
If it wasn't for the Civil Service the country would collapse pretty quickly. If you got rid of the politicians most people would barely notice, at least in the short to medium term. QED, Northern Ireland. ;)

Meh. Find someone under 45 that hasn't taken drugs at some stage. Find a reputable politician these days. What would you do about the immigration problem. Be nice if the cabinet was full of Winston Churchills, but it ain't.
And someone will be along shortly to tell us Winston Churchill was an alcoholic.
Vote Labour next election, and see what we get. It'll be exactly the same, only with a vindictive bias to those who own property, and run a business.

I think you will find that todays civil servant is very different to the civil servant of yore who was dedicated to a job which he has trained and studied for for many years. Now all the best civill servants are head hunted to go. into industry leaving behind a very mixed bunch

Isn't it a symptom of just how far the three main parties & their pathetic MPs have fallen that you would feel uneasy voting for any of them at an election.

If the ‘vast majority of the boat people’ are economic migrants, why does our govt give asylum to 70% of them?

Very simple, we are a soft touch that believes any sob story they care to make up, they know exactly how to play the game, and we are stupid enough to fall for it. Just look at Sweden and Germany to see the problems caused by not doing due diligence on economic migrants.

Maybe if permits for workers were made easier, less would feel the need to cross in boats.
Albanian lorry driver in here yesterday. Had crossed on a boat. Two years to be granted asylum. Couldn’t have been a more considerate polite and helpful driver. Somehow we seem to have screwed up immigration big style. There is some need so why not make the most of it instead of making things difficult for everybody. Why not set up a recruitment office near Calais? Some of these lads do want to work and build a future. That’s why they come here FFS.

But many of the Albanians in particular have been linked to drug gangs, we have one in our town plus a Romanian gang that vie with the pikies to see can steal the most. If we made it harder for the lazy Brits to escape work we wouldn't need so many immigrants. I was talking to a customer the other day who's husband run a small company, he is looking for several employees and gets sent the names of people to interview he says the percentage that don't even turn up is very high, they have to accept the appointment or lose money but don't bother to turn up

So why not re-invest in a (recently run down) system which can interview and weed out the non-genuine ones within a couple or three weeks instead of reducing the numbers of interviewers and spending millions “stockpiling flesh” with the inevitable consequences of them becoming bored and making mischief when they could already have been designated “OK” and found a worthwhile job in the UK OR be designated as “unsuitable” and sent back from whence they came.

The level of prevarication from supposed “government” on this subject is simply astounding.
