APHA seeks animal sciences veterinary officer

The Animal & Plant Health Agency (APHA) is seeking an animal sciences veterinary officer to join its animal sciences team.

The deadline for applications is 11:55p.m on Monday, June 17, 2024. The salary range for the role is £42,577 – £47,039.

The chosen candidate will join the animal sciences team alongside veterinary surgeons, bioveterinary scientists and animal technicians in the Department of Pathology and Animal Sciences.

The candidate will:

  • Lead the delivery of live animal phases of infectious disease research and statutory disease surveillance functions;
  • Ensure compliance with Home Office regulations (ASPA);
  • Provide advice on the welfare and treatment of the animals as Named Veterinary Surgeon;
  • Develop and promote the animal science discipline;
  • Manage specialist staff and facilities within APHA.

The APHA said the chosen candidate will have clinical practice in small or food animal species or experimental models.

They will also have strong interpersonal and communication skills – written and oral – as well as team working and leadership skills.

They are also required to have technical skills as well as a veterinary degree.

Applicants will be required to provide a statement of 250 words of how they meet the relevant technical skills for the post.

This should include veterinary expertise and skills, previous experience with experimental models or pathogens at different containment levels.
