My son had been made redundant due to Covid
He has sent his Cv off for few jobs he’s seen advertised
What has surprised me is that a lot of companies do not even acknowledge or thank people of applying
Leaving him wondering if his email been looked at or been lost
He tells me this is how it is now but to me it seems rude not to reply at least then you would know that your not what their looking for
I can’t believe there a many applicants for some of the jobs he’s applied for so a reply would not cost much especially via txt or email
He found a summer job ironically on FB

Heard on the radio that in some sectors such as supermarkets pre Covid the average was something like 3 applications per job but that has rocketed now to over 100 now.

My daughter was approached by three companies recruiting. She liked the sound of a job offered by Aldi. Got through the first zoom interview and was asked to attend a second, 10.30 am last Friday.

She’s there ready at 10.20am. Time goes by, no contact so at 10.40 she both emailed and called the number given. No reply was given to either. She gave up at 11am .

No thought to the fact she had taken the morning off work to attend the zoom interview.

She’s now employed elsewhere, having left her job. By the way, don’t ever think about working for Euro Garages, an enormous UK wide company running many of the country’s service stations and fast food franchises. They are a shower of shite with no morals, no intention of following employment law or paying employees for the work they have done.

Unfortunately, as Covid takes hold I suspect they will be swamped with people wanting to work for them and will get away with whatever they like.

Most recruitment ads these days make it clear that not every application will be replied to.

But from my experience as a recruiter, part of the reason is that so many applications are totally unsuitable and clearly haven't read the advert in the first place. Advertising for HGV drivers for a 24/7 delivery operation to supermarkets, I used to get everything from teenagers without even a car licence, to "can't do nights/weekends" "only want trunking work" "licence revoked due to heart condition"

About 50% of replies are people who are applying to meet jobseekers requirements ,
I advertised a job for a full time tradesman 2 weeks ago and got huge number of replies .
Its not difficult to say thanks for enquiry but due to large numbers of replies you are not on short list.. I answered 50+ in as long as it took to look at c.v.and send 1 line reply

It’s the way of the world, get used to it. I was encouraged by my manager to apply for an internal trainee surveyors job, it would have been a big pay cut but would have helped me move toward becoming a rural surveyor. I didn’t get the job despite having years of experience, I asked for some feedback and they wouldn’t give me a despite being an employee. f**k em’ they aren’t worth working for if that’s their approach. Treat them as they treat you.
