Are CLAAs tractors missing a trick. Why don't Claas fit Mercedes-Benz engines in there Axion 800 / 900 ranges.
Would it be a better engine than FPT, for germany market against Fendt and john Deere.

Have you ever heard any horror stories about FPT engines?

Can't say the same for fendt and JD.

Doubt merc see it as a big enough market to meet the emissions regulations on a new frame.

Reckon cost outweighs the potential

Maybe because they dont have one suitable? or the cost is prohibitive, FPT are making lots more than they bargained for.

Assume that you are referring to Daimler's 7.7L engine? From my experience in the automotive sector it looks like a very impressive engine technically - one of the few genuinely brand new engine designs on the market in this displacement range, with very high cylinder pressure capability. However it is also physically quite big, heavy and very expensive compared to some of the more established players, and is likely to be tailored to truck applications from a packaging standpoint given its origins. It is still quite new on the market so might be might be worth waiting for any 'bugs' to be ironed out too.

I'm not that familiar with the Cursor 9, but the 6.7L FPT engine (and Cummins equivalent design) is great compromise in terms of size, weight, initial cost, reliability, durability and fuel economy. Still one of the best engines on the market after nearly 15 years in production.

From a purely rational standpoint I'm mot sure what measurable benefit it would bring for most people for the extra cost involved. Fuel economy improvements are likely to be in the very low single digit % which in real world duty cycles would be almost impossible to measure. However, it could be a good differentiator for Claas?

I know what the Puma 155 is like neighbours has one & overall apart from the oldest team member who is has JD Blinkers on & just hates anything else with a passion even tho his Tractor a 30 series shall we say has had everything go wrong under its bonnet & a lot of Big Bills id say.
The rest of the lads get on fine with the PUMA I think its only major gripes are small fuel tank & That Daft Neutral Button on Shuttle.
Its had the odd pipe split one was v awkward to replace.
But that can happen to the best of them.
Mind you its ney slouch with a black box plugged it am sure its over 190horses if not more.
