if tractor gone up 20%in five years.our produce not gone up whats gowing on? old tractor get spirted off to the east
Now tractors have all the toys and gadgets great way to justify the bigger cost but managed before .As said prices haven't really kept pace at all.

Computers have got cheaper like for like since they started making them. That doesn’t mean that farm produce should too, as they are completely unrelated. Price is determined by supply and demand, nothing else.

There will be a lower price limit for all items, including tractors.

Agco, John Deere, Claas etc would not remain in business for many years if they were selling at below COP.

The problem with Ag is that many folk seem unable or unwilling to assess their true cost of production and don't consider that they need a return on basic assets.

Farmers seem to think differently to everyone else when buying stuff. Ask a "civilian" how much they paid for a car, motorbike etc and they'll say "£xxxx"

Ask a farmer how much they paid for a tractor, telehandler etc and the answer will be "I got xx% discount!"

no one knows how much their cars cost - all they know is how much the monthly cost is.

sad world

Very true - Folk are so "S**t scared" that something will go wrong outside warranty that they prefer to pay a budgeted amount through the nose rather than drive a perfectly serviceable slightly older car bought for about 20% of it's original purchase price with at least half its useful life left when the independent servicing sector has already got to grips with each vehicles potential problems and can sort most problems out for a month or two's rental costs.

Work it out on a barter system, how many tonnes of wheat, litres of milk, kilos of beef, dozens of eggs do you need to buy said tractor 10 years ago and how many now to buy the tractor today.

no, not unless you want to buy same spec as ten tears ago. And they won’t be available. Just accept that times change.

Or are you happy also buying ten year old technology for thousands of pounds too?
