Are the General public completely oblivious to the dangers of large farm machinery?

It’s been like that for years..
A friend was driving a combine with 20’ header behind the combine up a seriously steep hill which is a continuous left had bend, a motorbike overtook the header and then realised there was a combine in front, the driver said all he saw on the camera on the combine was the tail lights of the motorbike between the combine and the header for around half a mile 😮
Seen plenty of people have close shaves and hits by cars into tractors/trailers as they’ve gone and done a big sweeping bend to get into gateways.
A friend had a cyclist tailgating him on his sprayer, he was that close that when he turned a 90’ corner on a back road he wiped the cyclist off with the boom. (12/24m boom so hardly long)

Cripes, so if the combine had gone around a fairly steep bend the arsh would have moved round and left the cyclist between it and the header?! Tail knocks cyclist off, header trailer wheels promptly carve both legs (or worse) in half? Jebus.

How could he see the tail lights in the camera?

Excessive health and safety nannying is to blame. Unless something's security fenced with warning signs and patrolled by a high-vis jacketed warden people assume it's impossible to get hurt. Our safety is someone else's responsibility.
At least 25 people have died in outdoor waters since scorching temperatures were recorded across the UK in the past week (ITV 23/07/2021). A tragedy. But how many times do we hear "But there were no warning signs." "But it wasn't fenced off." "But no one told us not to."

The terrific picture below was generously made possible by Elf n Safety and their tireless crusade to make everything safe and every accident someone else's fault (y)

To answer the OP Yes.

Ive had several experiences all similar to the above. Just a complete lack of spacial awareness and an obliviousness to the loud noise/brightly coloured large machine that is approaching

My son has been moving machinery around this week. I told him to be very careful and watch out for people doing stupid things and make sure to avoid tailbacks and the like. He has been moving combine headers at times this week and finding anywhere to pull over with a 40 or 45 foot header on a trailer is pretty difficult laybys work but they are pretty far apart however he sent us a video of 60 cars passing him after he pulled off the A15 to let cars go by, all caused by an old lady who wouldn't pass on a clear straight piece of road no matter how much prompting and signalling she was given. So by the time a pullover stop is reached you have a tailback of epic proportions this time though he had nothing on the tractor.

Lets face it there are a lot of thick people in the world trouble is they will breed more thick people . The standard of driving seems to have gone way down hill since lockdown . You would think they will be thinking themselves lucky that they survived that are would take more care , but no a lot seem to drive as if they have a death wish . YOU CAN'T EDUCATE PORK .

Up in scotland car drivers seem more sensible
The minute they see twin beacons they pull over

:LOL: not in this part they aren't , most folk around here seem to have the ability to go one direction and that's just forward !
. The worst though are cyclists , I even had 1 punch the combine because he got upset that he'd have to get off his bike and stand on the verge for a few seconds to let us past, best part was that he punched the side light bracket and hurt his hand in the process :ROFLMAO:

But isn’t a lot of it down too farmers taking way to big machines down small country roads and expecting every body to jump out of their way.
You could take a horse and cart or an old binder down a small country road and someone coming the other way would still have to get over. This isn’t a new thing, it’s the way people react or the positions they put them selves in that’s changing!

But at least it would be safer than being forced off the road by a brain dead student going way to fast and seriously overloaded.
