Are the Kiwi dairy farmers going mad?

how many sheep and beef farmer's made profits in the last few years ... don't think too many cropping farmers in mid canty will be looking to rich after the rains crop's still in the fields no winter feeds in ummm might be a few cows on packed lunchs
Local dairy rep has 7000 cows needing winter grazing, problem is he has 14000 cows worth of grazing avaliable.

These are the sheds. Had a sneaky look when we were there visiting family in January. Looked a good set of sheds. But time will tell if it pays off

Sort of. Depending on how much cake you pay them

There are two basic principles. One is free access, with visits controlled and encouraged by cake feeding. The other relies on the cow going to the feed barrier or having to pass through the robot

Again, it depends on the cows. We found pure Holsteins were allowed to perform to their genetic potential on robots, the best going in 5 or 6x a day in peak lactation. Those that had varying degrees of BF genetics responded less well to the system, naturally going dry earlier from a steeper lactation curve. Had plenty of PI Holsteins still over 30kg at 400 days.
