we have to pass a deal first, that's political, the next stage is tariffs etc, this may well be more business orientated, we all know EU countries will still want to export to us, otherwise they will have to find new markets for them, given that EU is protective of its internal market, by the use of high tariffs, it may not be easy for them to do so, in which case, it may be better to come to a sensible compromise with us. I'm sure this will occur, as long as the politicians keep out of it !
It maybe a small problem for EU counties, but as nothing to the problems it will cause the UK. Over 60% of all trade is done with the EU or though EU trade agreements, so far just 8% has been rolled over on a temporary basis subject to renegotiation. And don't forget the UK's biggest trading partner the USA, wish to rebalance their trade with the UK as they currently import far more from the UK than they export.

Won’t be today. But I now sadly expect Boris to get his deal through. So it looks like we have a yr To negotiate a free deal. It’s very easy to see us in yrs time asking for an extension to the transition period. Or crashing out under WTO rules. Which would leave NI at a huge advantage!

I suspect Boris and his ERG puppet masters won’t be in charge by the time we get to the end of that 12 months.;)

There is a clause to enable the transition period to be extended by up to 2 years and apparently partial implementation of completed parts of the agreement can happen before the final approval in this period.
