Andy Street out as West Midlands mayor (37.8% vs 37.5% after a recount)

Must be a kick in the teeth for him as he's worked his nuts off and was very well thought of. Maybe he made the mistake of putting Conservative in his branding unlike Lord Houchen on Teeside

Higher Wage down here??
So much for pay equality??

That's on top of any existing salaries and allowances they may get for being an elected member elsewhere:

Cash-strapped Derbyshire Police have appointed a £30,000-a-year police and crime commissioner two years after the role was axed and amid a policing budget shortfall of £5.2 million.

Cllr Robert Flatley, 26, ties the UK record for youngest deputy Police and Crime Commissioner and the youngest currently holding the role. His salary of £30,000 will run alongside his existing roles as Conservative Derbyshire county councillor for Ilkeston East and cabinet support member for education, and Erewash borough councillor for West Hallam and Dale Abbey.

These three roles see 26-year-old Cllr Flatley receiving £58,872 in public funds each year.

Cllr Flatley told the Local Democracy Reporting Service that this comes as the number of services commissioned by the PCC has doubled since the incumbent, Angelique Foster, won the role in 2021, having scrapped the deputy role upon her election, reports DerbyshireLive.

Cllr Foster, who is also a Derbyshire county councillor and leader of Dronfield Town Council, is paid £78,400 a year as PCC and has an allowance of £11,388 as a county councillor. She is not in receipt of funds as a town councillor, receiving total public funds of £89,788.

As for the votes:

Derbyshire PCC: Labour's Nicolle Ndiweni elected

Nicolle Ndiweni has been elected as police and crime commissioner (PCC) for Derbyshire.
The Labour candidate earned 93,260 votes, nearly 30,000 more than the incumbent, Angelique Foster of the Conservatives, who received 65,293.
Reform's Russell Armstrong came in third place with 32,944 votes, with Liberal Democrat David Hancock receiving 22,540.
A total of 803,297 voted in the election, with a turnout of 26.6%.

I think the Greens are confused by the gender identity thing, may be fashionable in internal focus groups, but the great unwashed, ie us the electorate, might not be impressed cometh the hour on GE day.

The gender identity thing is an interesting one. I am with you, its nuts (or not), but when you look at stuff that used to be considered by society as unnatural but is now accepted -homosexuality being an obvious parallel - then we may both be wrong. As with most things, history will be the judge.

I saw no need for a police commissioner in tgd first place. Yes I read the two page spread in the Tory controlled local rag about what a brilliant job the commissioner is doing but it just gets worse and worse on the ground. The town is being taking over by county lines drug dealers and of course nobody can do a thing. Not a thing without infringing the poor dears human rights. I didn’t know what cuckooing was till I spoke to a local nurse who deals well the arising problems. It’s getting worse, not improving yet those at the top just keep slapping one another on the back and saying how well they’ve done. As ever they are about 5 years behind the curve and losing battle. If you ventured into rough areas you’d know this. A failing society, by and large with causes that stem from the top.
Agree this is so true this country really has gone to the dogs. We used to be a proud nation now we are nation of slobs and want to be celebs, over run by immigration ( yes i know I will probably get shot down for saying that, but that’s my view, look at Republic of Ireland they don’t want them but no one calls them right wing neo nazis)
And the thing is we are the last bastion of England of old, i.e the country side but it has changed in the last 10 years especially, and peoples attitude is really very intolerant of the remaining yokels

I used to think like that....but latterly I've come to think that those generations also fought for the right to choose and might be horrified that we now have to take photo id

I object to having to take photo id..I think it's a sign of failed government

just pcc so not voting today...probably not the election either

Times change. Would they be so horrified of ID? They went through the war - if I recall they endured Identity Cards and Ration cards. My Mum if she were alive would just give that look of 'you don't know you are born'. Just my view Spin. No criticism of your view. Best wishes.

First time since 1979 I have not turned out to vote when an election / referendum has come about. Just PCC here.

I did vote in the end, but rather sadly, it was only so I could still say that I always have.

I do think the government undermine the fabric of society when they introduce laws which aren't worthy of respect or elections that aren't meaningful.

no offence taken ..it's here to be discussed after all:).....it does seem my view is a touch isolated🤔

i would argue that id cards in war time is fair enough.....but after nearly 80 years of peace it's a sad indictment that proving who you are is necessary to vote

i'd also say those generations fought so we had enough freedom that we don't have to identify ourselves on a regular basis

But its life and the way it is. Simpler times. Yes frustrating. And i too a few years ago railed against ID. But appreciate now its probably required for the functioning of our country at all levels: private and public. And AI and the such will just increase that need, in my view. Hey ho. At least we are not required to have an ear tag (yet?!) and fill out a movement licence before leaving the Parish.

but thats just it...legislate to control the whole population because they can't control the small % that abuse our borders.....failed government/philosophy in my view
