Would love to produce our own eggs for farm shop, but won't because not fair on long term supplier who supplies as much or as little as required.
Always thought arks for small scale production (300 hens ish) were better than true free range. Fresh grass daily, clean from parasites & protection from vermin like foxes, buzzards etc.
Move arks into poly tunnel used for veg for the winter open pop holes & use a lot of straw & hang up brussel sprout stems to peck at.
Not free range but sold direct to customers, sure public would be impressed.
As said just thinking out loud, prefer to concentrate on existing enterprises.
Oh & also to impress public rear own pullets from day old under silkie hens & CCTV it into shop.
