Our local market is printing out declaration forms for the buyers to sign saying they promise to rear to 8 weeks.

I think the plan is to move the goal posts for sure, I don’t there’s any date been set yet though, or any decision on where the goal posts may move to.

So you can't have say 10% of your calves slaughter at less than 8 weeks but could have a 30% replacement rate?

That’s a whole different can of worms right there, insisting on a low replacement rate would not necessarily be good for welfare.

I’ve just downloaded the app and worked it out. Nearly 2ppl for our jersey butter!

Do they work it out on composition? I assumed it would just be paid on the KG listed on the year to date on Dec statement which is just litres converted at a standard 1.2 conversion rate?

Still a good pay back if it is.

Depends how you look at it I suppose, for us it would be around 30% roi. Though I would prefer to see a higher milk price throughout the year but I’m not complaining

Agree. Please don't lump it with your milk price. It's your return on capital inveseted in the business and remember that's only two thirds of it. Because a third is retained for investment.

I don't think it is a return on capital, otherwise it would be called a dividend, and paid based on our level of investment.

Instead it's called a 13th payment as it's a balancing payment on our milk production after the whole year has been accounted.
