Artificial Intelligence

I've not really paid much attention to AI but I thought this video would be worthwhile listening to if you want to see how "AI" ... pattern recognition ... has progressed.

The CEO of NVIDIA, who make AI equipment used in data centres & cars, demonstrate how AI technology has expanded in power.

IMHO you need to watch from about 23:37 onwards.

To me the interesting thing is the speed, reduction in power and size involved. Anything which can be "patterned" ... obvious farming benefits ... but also concern that data held in Facebook etc can be used to pattern human beings.

The whole idea of true AI scares the hell out of me; I don't mean computers / robots that can react to given situations in real time, but 'self-awareness'. Jokes about Terminators aside, it would very probably be the most stupid human invention since war. :(

The "AI" is not really intelligence.

I've not coded any yet, probably have a look when I get some time so TBH I don't truely know enough .. however those in professional websites state "AI" is little more than statistics ... ie a banana is a yellow curved thing, the likelihood is a given picture IS a banana.

The "AI" machines use thousands of small CPUs running at the sametime in parrallel .. it's practically impossible to tell WHY something happens. Because too many things are happening at the same time.

This is why DATA behind the "AI" pattern is also valueable ... the "AI" has to be presented with a list of information or pictures to "learn" or build the statistics.

That's my current understanding.

Yes creating "AI" to do low paid jobs is silly.

I'm not concerned regarding the job-replacement matter, although I regard it as unwise for reasons of its own. What you have described is, in simple terms, how our brains work. Sooner or later there will be viable molecular computers that have a processing power to compare with animal brains, including ours eventually. What they will be capable of without intuition, empathy etc. is what scares me. Think of a psychopath with a phenomenal ability to calculate and therefore predict, and you'll get the general idea.
