It’s noticeable by the shops they build !!One of the biggest issues has been the disparity between farm gate and retail prices. I read something a while back that showed what proportion of the retail price of a lamb, steer or pig was shared amongst retailer, processor and farmer. I can’t recall the exact figures but the proportion retained by the retailer had increased astronomically over the last twenty years. The truth is that farm gate prices have been suppressed by the large retailers taking an ever bigger margin as retail prices have increased and commodity prices stagnate.
I just looked up something. Asda charged 28 pence for an 800g loaf of Mother’s Pride white sliced bread in 1987. The same loaf today is c. £1. The price of wheat has barely changed. It’s noticeable by the shops they build !!
Perhaps the retailer should not take as much and perhaps if more was spent on food houses cars phones would not be so over valued while food is drastically under valued . Fuel over 1.30 and no one bats an eye .Clearly none of you do the weekly shop. Yes , we would all like prices to be higher. But how do you think the vast majority can afford to eat...(proper non processed food).
This is what has prompted Argentina to ban beef exports for 30 days....
They also have government subsidised labour.I just looked up something. Asda charged 28 pence for an 800g loaf of Mother’s Pride white sliced bread in 1987. The same loaf today is c. £1. The price of wheat has barely changed.
Well we wouldn’t be able to moan about unfair advantages then would we come on now that’s never going to catch onOh. And as @Yale said.....Theres nothing stopping you buying farmland here (try that in most countries where you are a non citizen) and hedging your bets.
I know of a UK dairy farmer that owns dairy farms here to.
Wait till you start negotiating with countries like Vietnam and Indonesia.Free trade without the same rules and regulations great.
Perhaps we should start sponsoring animal welfare groups
in Aus to level thing up .
I get the feeling he's losing the UK market.

Speaking to a friend in the uk, says "the turkeys that voted for Christmas have turned into headless chickens."
Yeah. What uk market?, my cattle go to Italy.
You must be lacking in the thought department if you think the Australia deal will be good for you. Minette says they've sold you down the river with the fishing boys.
