Really can’t beat this tbh, doesn’t wander off, doesn’t break down and doesn’t use any electric, Ohh and where the tractor drives the floor is higher than where the heifers stand so even the smallest feeder wagon can fill it, just in case we have a break down.
BTW this is for heifers we are about to start the cow shed next, will follow the same principle though
How would you go about cleaning any waste feed out of it without getting in there with a fork?
Used troughs here for 30 years, moved away from them this autumn, fitted lely juno.
Wouldn't go back, easier to manage intakes, the regular push ups encourages them, i think its a no brainer for milkers.
For heifers though i think the trough has a place.
Each to their own, but i think if you want high output feeding on the floor is the way to go.
Are you planning on putting any resin/coating in the bottom of the troughs ?I’m moving away from feeding on the floor to troughs, we aren’t high yielding so it’s not a great issue for us, but the pros of feed not getting contaminated with muck is a something we want to get away from

We find with our troughs for the cows that they have a tendancy to flick silage over the back of the trough so we have attached greedy boards which has solved the problem
