AW Trailers

Bought a new 12 ton mono trailer last season.
Noted lost grain on our track but put it down to remaining seeds on axles after tipping.
Left it filled with wheat , for pheasants, after harvest and when i went up a couple of months later there were piles of it under the tailgate.
The HD tailgate is warped where it been welded, only 2 little contact patches and gaps all the rest of the way. Been back to my dealer and he keeps saying the firm will ring me. Not heard anything.
Thank goodness i didnt put any rape in it this year!!
I got rid on a Good Marston trailer ,That never leaked!
Think it will have to be returned next week as Unfit for Purpose
Any one else had bad experiences with them??

That does surprise me, they are very popular around here, lots of very big farms have them. They are normally very well put together, I have had mine 5 years now with no leaks.

I have always found Andrew Watkins to be very helpful with any issues, but i bought direct from aw. They are local to me, i can drive tractor to aw to pick trailer up, saves on transport costs. I did have one problem with a removable side once that would not locate back into socket on trailer, I was told to bring trailer back in, i did, and they sorted problem.
I think your dealer is not doing enough to resolve the problem, the trailer either has to go back to Herefordshire, Madley, or the dealer gives you another trailer that does not leak.

Either the dealer is not being proactive sorting it, or AW aren't (I suspect the former). I'd ring AW direct and ask to speak to Andrew Watkins, what is there to loose?

I know many people locally who have dealt direct with Andrew and always found him good. One chap I know had minor paint problem with a trailer, AW had it back, shot blasted it and re painted it under warranty. (y)

I have two AW trailers and find them excellent. Always found Andrew very approachable and helpful when I have spoken with him. Local dealer also good. I'd have another without question.

Do you use the trailer for muck?
Why i ask is, several years ago, i was helping out a spud farmer, one wet day we went mucking out the cattle sheds. I had a 10 ton Ken wooton on my tractor, the chap loading me with the fresh muck insisted the trailer had to be filled to over flowing ie piled right up:clown:. This was ok until i had a big lump get stuck on the tail gate when tipping:eek:. Cleared it away with the loader. Every thing seemed fine, but on closer inspection a bow had appeared along the tail gate:mad:. We had to take it off & take it to a steel fab, that pressed it straight again.
Has any body else caught it, easy done when going around corners with the tail gate up. its always rush rush when harvest starts(y)

I put this here to see if it was normal for these trailers to leak, Seems not to be the case.
Our other trailers are manual close so most of the grain on axles etc was cleaned off by hand before leaving the shed. This one is just back in, tip and drive away.
As we normally drive across the fields to get home, you have a job to see grain loss from the back, only saw it in the yard.
trailer only bought and used for grain.
I will contact them direct but im sure they will say it has to go thro the dealer.
Thanks for replys.

We also have a new aw that leaks grain in the middle of the door. It only has 2 slots now rather than the 4 they used to have. If there is any grain or chaff under the door as it closes it does bow slightly and leaks, it certainty wouldn't be rape proof. AW know about this and we'll take it back to have some extra slots welded on the trailer in the middle. Im sure if your half decent with the welder they'd send you some catches and some green pain if your too far away.
As said give them a ring they are very helpful and will almost guarantee they'll sort something for you. Ring Andrew on 01981251558

Looking along edge you can see how warped the tailgate is.

yes i can see what you mean about it being distorted with welding ,it will need taking of and pressing out ,i used to have to do this with all tailgates when i used to build trailers 25/30 years ago this can be done with a good bottle jack and some pieces of wood and the door under something that will allow the jack to press the door e.g. the back end of a telehandler we had a fabricated frame from beams for this purpose,as said it could do with 2 more lugs in the middle ,the lugs don't seam to have much lead in to pull the door down and in at the same time ,it could do with a compressible foam strip bonding on similar to the ones used on the bottom of shutter doors
