Trade was very good at Penrith. Did you have one or 2 at Carlisle in last few weeks?
Begining of the month we had a couple there

What percentage pure are your Ayrshire and shorthorns on average?[/QUOTE]

To be honest we don`t give much thought to %age.
Some folk are so hung up on %ages, it has a negative effect on the type of cow they breed
Aim is to breed our ideal type of cow that suits our system
So dairy without being frail, Correct conformation, especialy body capacity, feet, legs & udder
With no bad luck, likely to last about 8 lacts, averaging at least 8000 over those 8
Calving round 24 months, We don`t mind them calving early as on our system they grow on & turn into better cattle than a heavy "cowy " 3 year old
Classifying either VG or Ex by 3rd lact

I find looking through the Ayrshire and shorthorn semen catalogues that you've not got a lot of information to pick from. So what I did was try looking at the females in a bulls pedigree and picked bulls with females that had done 7000 plus over 6+lactations and classified vg or ex
We'll see if it works out

It`s a problem with numericaly small breeds

Good thinking. Great believer in looking for good female lines.& breeding from them.

Old bloke told me that when I was single.

Don't think a blue cow been on dairy thread before. Shorthorn x hol. 11 years old. Possibly most profitable cow in herd. V fertile, great calf and peaks at 8 gal. Hard to get dried off. Complete opposite of red and white. Does that make me a racist?

aryshire bull details as above
he is for sale, and would not be a stupid price, would rather sell to use than for meat
