B12 plough set up

Hi I have been working away at getting this old international B12 plough working it has Ace bottoms single arm coulters and i have tried at a couple of small matches but its not performing well it ploughs untidy broken furrows when they should be better .There are so many different settings on this the headstock can change from one side to middle and i have tried that with little better in either spot i have now started to think about the setting of the back leg is there any advantage to moving it to the rear by 6 inches It would then make the depth wheel nearer the front instead of being at the balance point between the 2 furrows any suggestions would be very much appreciated mike

What width and depth are you trying to plough at? I don’t have much experience with IH but I would think 10” wide and 6” deep would be plenty! Discs should be about 1/2” out from the point and 1/2”-1” above depending on conditions. I presume you have skimmers how deep are you running them? Are the mouldboards shiny or dull?

Plow 11" and a shallow 6" run disc's they are new 16" around 1 1/2 above and centre of the disc above the point mould boards are shiny dirt polished. this is not my first rodeo, but this plow makes it look like it is mike

I have no first hand experience of IH ploughs but it always struck me that Ace boards were similar in style to Epics and did a similar job. The best ploughing I saw with a B12 was with boards that most resembled YL165s. Hopefully an expert will pick up on this.

any chance of some photos of the boards/plough and furrows? Very difficlt to comment without seeing

if you lye an ACE board on top of a YL 183, they are very similar in the twist in the board, shape is the same, however the profile is the same until you get to the back at the bottom, YL is full and rounded off, where as the ACE has a bit of the YL profile cut off at an angle going up as it nears the back of the board, overall they can do a very very similar job,
the down fall, as with lots of ploughing is the point, both are totally different, and for this reason the the ploughing looks different,
@arcobob the bodies your referring to are MPB bodies, yes very similar to YL 165, even the point was held on the same,
with regards the points, ACE will only work right in a good strong 10 plus year let, not much good in stubble

the headstock has 2 mounting positions in an ark, or radius to the back of the plough, for 10/11" work, it needs to be set towards the plough at the front, and for 12" or above set towards the land at the front,
what is the track width wheel settings?

with regards the wheel,
what tractor do you have it on ?
and are the link arms pulling into or out of work ?
and in general ir is better to move the wheel back towards the rear body, but makes it lot harder to turn the handle
