Hi.

I was servicing the tractor and after changing the filters I went to start it. It was struggling to start. I stopped cranking it over to slacken an injector pipe and when I went to crank it over again there was nothing from the start just clicking from a black box at the bottom of the diesel tank. .

Any help appreciated.

Is the black box the starter remote solenoid? Ie one heavy cable from it to battery and another heavy one to starter? Assuming it's on original lever operated starter? if so the solenoid can fail or weaken. Sometimes a tap will free them, sometimes they will return to life? Usually prolonged cranking will heat them up and weaken the coil, they may come back to life when cooled down. It could also be as simple as a flat battery

Either battery is flat, you have a slack connection on your battery or ground wires - or the solenoid has failed. The early solenoids had a brass cap on the back hiding a button you could press in to make the connection. A big screwdriver bridging the 2 solenoid connections will reveal where the problem is.
