merlo have a hole halfway along the tines, I simply bolt a length of box across the holes and carry the bags around with the tines fully back, this keeps them inline . and also means you dont hit the back wall of shed with tip of tine. Also simplifies lifting out of curtainsiders.

Bag lifter would be very handy around here & is on the " I want " list . Currently just turn pallet forks upside down , bit of a faff but does the job .

had a bag slide down a fork when unloading a curtain sider one day.
Ended up in a heap on the floor after cutting through the loop on the bag.
Will only us bag lifter now, although need to make a new one as old one was made to lift 500kg bage not 1000kgs

Would it be a really stupid idea to sink some new bushings in the top of my double bale spike and use this as a bag lifter - it would strain it wouldn't it with four bags?
Please post the aftermath in wreckers so we can all have a laugh. Unless you're in jail for killing the lorry driver.

I prefer playing with box, easier to make support strut from below. ;)
Oblong should be stronger vertically [] than round?
Mine fits into the bags nicely and carries 4x600kg easily.
I just used what KAA had.

@Nearly I've got some 80x120x6 which I normally use for pallet time sleeves could use this?
Put it long side up and look at it end on, in comparison to the tube you have. As long as it slides into the bag which would you prefer holding up 1.2t?
With Keith's steel price why be tight?
I cut the end at 45 degrees and put a 10mm plate on the end, extended 50mm above the top of the oblong and with the plate shoulders removed at 30 degrees. Pictures later.
As long as the pointed plate goes through the loop the rest will follow. 50mm above the oblong will stop the bag sliding off forwards.
The only downside I've found is I have to unload wagons with them parked across top of my yard to keep back end of loadall on floor though. ;)
