bale feeders

this is what I normally do and have used chopped bales in the past but this year seems to be more of a problem than normal .
I should have said strip wrap and net off then lift a pile of silage, not a bale, and take to the feeder. I dont know your system so this may not be practical though.
Were the swathes you baled tedded this year? I see a big difference in the chopping efficiency in tedded swathes versus mown conditioned swathes. More effect in the tedded stuff due to stalks lying across the knives rather than passing between then and acting like wee lengths of rope.
Or maybe your balerman had just sharpened his knives?

Up until a few years ago (while still using twine bales) all our bales were fed by using a spike and turning the bales on end into the rack. The twine could then be pulled out between the rack bars.
We then upgraded the baler to net. This was the end of using the spike to feed as the bales would colapse before the net could be pulled out cleanly.
We now feed roughly a 1000 bales a season using a 4ft muck grab.
Because of the grab, everything is kept in control.
Modern balers make bigger, tighter bales, so we now (using the grab) half the bales into two separate racks.
It works for us!

How do you transport wrapped bales from field to trailer to stack? Do you use bale squeezer or rollers can you not use this to hold bale over feeder cut wrap and net then let go?

We had terrible trouble 2 years ago feeding chopped silage bales in cradle feeders . Ewes ate inwards and then to the side as i supose it was easier to pull out till they worked their way behind the bar , then the weight of the bale cause it to drop . Found 2 ewes dead one day and thinking it was just bad luck carried on to find 3 dead the next . We now unroll as much as we can but cant get a whole bale in a feeder . Still looking for the perfect feeder
