Bale spike + cropped silage bales

Bought a 2nd hand bale spike for back of the tractor to cart bales between the stack and feed barrier and its struggling to get them to the barrier without the bale drooping to the point where its touching the floor. The bales are well made, heavy, cropped, silage and the spike has a single tine, 980mm from end of thead to tip i.e. including the bit that goes through the frame.
What do I need? A longer tine? Two tines a foot apart?
TIA

Ideally you need two spikes 1200mm long about 2.5ft apart. Or a set of pallet forks.

Use a chain for a top link with another attached from drawbar to middle of chain. When you lift spike it will tip forwards and lift the point higher.
2 spikes the option

That sounds like a recipe for smashed mudguards...
2 spikes is the answer.

We use a 6t dropside silage trailer stripped to lowest sides and no rear door. Fetch 3 at a time from heap down to sheds.

You sure the bales aren't abit wet or abit softer as result of a wetter summer. Have a new good Fleming 2 spike one here and this years bales are still dropping, as their abit wet. Last years bales were done in weather good enough for hay, and the bales were completely level when carried. You could also try and adjust where the top link is connected to tractor as this can also make a difference on lift.

Change to 1200 mm spike would help but if you can, change the bush and go for the heavier type time they are far less prone to bending and snapping.Might cost twenty quid more but cheaper in the long run
