Bale trailers or transtackers!?

How much are these older chasers going for nowadays? Would they be a good start up machine for someone like us? Not handling stupid amount a year.

That must be one of the first QM videos. Doubt you'll get a QM Extra for less than £40k but an older standard machine might be less. They're easy and cheap to maintain, you just need to have a good driver to make them pay.

Yes and no.
Straight out of the baler you can pick them up but you don't get many on and its a bit of a piggle. More to get the field cleared but wouldn't fancy doing it all day every day.

If you put a quarter turn tailgate on the baler then it's no problem, but they will fall over backwards on the chaser as they don't have the support behind the bales that the QM does. Would be easy enough to make it though as Hesston4860s has done.

Right I'm with you. So can be altered easy enough. Which do they recommend for 4x3's if money was no object?

QM for quads and 4x3's.
Super for 4x4s.

Both come in standard and extra.
Standard is 10 4x4s or 14 4x3s IIRC
Extra is 12 4x4s or 18 4x3s.

Extra also has air suspension, air brakes, ABS etc.

My QM standard has air brakes and abs, never used em as don't have tractor with air.

Plus if he bought a QM he Could swap the head and do 4x4's but admittedly it is a bit of a ball ache swapping them over.

Or buy a Walton, not as fast but a hell of a lot more versatile as you can pick up the stacks from the side of the field and cart them home later.
We bought a secondhand one off George Starling in 2012 when we had a combination of wet weather and crap staff who couldn't load trailers safely.

Carting 3 miles I could keep up with 2 blokes with a jcb and tractor and 2 trailers.
