Bale Wrap

While there's a huge difference between 2+2 and 2+2+2, I'm not sure there's enough advantage adding yet another couple of layers unless they're going to be handled a lot. had a go with some pre-stretched film last year, wasn't overly impressed. Just about though our first pallet of Claas stuff this year with few problems some rolls have thin bits at the very start of the roll but once past that it goes well.

Are you wrapping small bales?

I thought you hated round bales, or is that just straw? With 4 layers you should be doing 32 to a roll so for 8 layers you should be getting 16. I put 6 layers on this year and got around 22-23 to a roll, don't see you will be getting much more from putting 8 vs 6 layers on..

I usually find the moisture meter tells me lies probing them straight after they are baled, if you probe them again in a weeks time the moisture will have gone up 15%.

My Delmahurst meter was saying 20% the other day, I gave it the aga test and the scales told me it was 50% moisture.
It will go up I'm sure, it's a day off hay which is how I always bale it, it so happens when I stick the meter in after its baled that day of hay calculation always gives me between 20 and 30

We always seem to get about 24 bales from 6 wraps on a Welger 220; thought just 18 bales on 6 wraps was very low?

We find anything from 21-24 bales at 2+2+2 (22 turns) depending on the make of wrap so I'd reckon at 2+2+2+2 (29 turns) you're looking at 15-18 bales/roll
