Don't move it whatever you do . It will go mouldy if you do
We dont plan to, other than to feed them to the horses.

Well just push it into the centre then for God's sake! The sensor is at the tip.A temperature probe which is a 1m long ss spear with a temp gauge incorporated in the handle will give you a better indication of what's happening inside the bale. You might want to bag it as haylage if the temp is going the wrong way.
Them geezers are 350 quid .
Hay don't ferment !Most making hay with big square bales will try to get to a moisture where no curing or fermenting happens. About 14% ish I think @Forage Trader? Anything above will ferment to some degree. Get up towards 20% and there's more chance things will go wrong.
Basically because a big square bale can't breathe. Same with small square bales baled tight.
There is a sweet spot in moisture content terms as to what will cure and make nice hay and what will cure and go mouldy or fusty. I'm afraid it's trial and error.
A lot of us on here will have decades of experience and still get it wrong!

Don't worry about 0.0001 deg. accuracy. Use your nose as well
@Ukjay That hay looks spot on to me.

I'm sure the hays fine .But how can anyone tell by looking .I've been had so many times by looking at hay in big unopened stacks
Trust is the word. I could phone people today and I know their hay would be better even that they say it is. Don't need to see itI think we can safely say we have all been bitten on that front. You cant test every bale before you buy it, so a lot is based on trust!
Ferment might be the wrong word!Hay don't ferment !
Hay is made before it's baled
What is the word for it?Hay don't ferment !
Hay is made before it's baled
What is the word for it?
I have no ideaWhat is the word for it?
I have heard variousCook .
There used to be one round here made it greener than I make haylage!I have no idea
I think it's a load of rubbish about hay " making" in the bale, I can always make good hay, my dad can't, I have paitence and don't bale till it's ready, dad always bales a day too soon, he can't understand why my hay is better
Got a chap near me who's the same. Always bales a day too soon. Which is odd because he never seems to get other jobs finished, yet cracks on too much with his hayThere used to be one round here made it greener than I make haylage!
Some years it was nice. Others it was like tobacco. Sometimes it was just stuck together like paving slabs!
