Baling and wrapping?

Charge £3 for baling 4ft unchopped and £1.50 + cost of wrap for wrapping here (currently around £2.15 for 6 layers) £6.70 total or £4+ wrap on the combi but that one uses £2.50 worth on 6 layers £6.50 total (need to have a look at the prestretchers and over lap on that to see why that's using so much more wrap)

Can never understand why many contractors charge so little for baling then rip the customers off so badly on the wrapping

I would rather buy my own baler than pay anywhere nr £4 / bale. The range locally for silage is £5.80- £7.50 and hay and straw is from £1.80-£2.70. Some contractors have farms and are owner drivers, the firms on the cheaper prices and paying a driver are treading water at best but thats not the farmers problem.
£4.50 baleing here £5 if under 100. £8.50 6 layers plastic if under 100 £10bale don't like it don't ring unless something serious break down there when agreed with customer

I take £3 a bale chopped and £1.60 to put on 4 layers of plastic not supplied, diesel on top of that.

This is the middle of what others locally charge.

Price based upon minimum of 35 bales an hour. Haybob rows or baling toppings the price is increased accordingly.

Hate the neighbour who's desperate for you because they're going on holiday and rain is forecast, and nobody else will go to them.

The same neighbour then quibbles over 10p/ bale because one of the contractors does it cheaper.....

.... Well get said contractor then!!!

I have a customer that asks every year how much i am charging, he always takes 6 months to pay the bill, i therefore quote him 50p more per bale more, than the rest for that reason.(take it or leave it attitude) For everybody that uses contractors, we are not a free bank.

£2.40 to bale here 4ft rounds ( Decent density but not stupidly heavy) depending on size or area to be covered and locality to our base. Not the job we’re on. £7.50 6 layers of silotite wrap in field. Or £2.50 to wrap a bale if it’s their plastic. Prices are trimmed for all their cuts, all their baling work or if it’s large acreages in one lot as it’s more efficient for us so we pass the saving on. Usually I ask them to leave the wrap in the hedge back through the gate hole and then I put the left overs back there for them. Which saves them moaning about plastic usage and left over etc. Have done a lot this year quite a bit away at £8.20 a bale but we were 20 miles from base.

Silawrap black £51.50. 22 turns to cover the bale. Getting over 24 bales to the roll. I changed the gearing on the wrapper a few years ago to reduce the overlap to 53% from 56% and on closer inspection with the tape measure I think the prestretcher on the Kverneland is stretching the wrap slightly more as it necks down a couple of centimetres narrower than the JD/goweil. On the plus side looks like I only need 22 turns rather than 24 for 6 layers so should save a bit of money in the future.

A lot of pit silage contractors over here work on the farmers diesel, think they fill from farmers tank but 1 I mow a bit for calls the local oil man when he is done, everything gets filled & the farmer gets the bill, said contractor used to yard fill but had bother with injection pumps on the shovel.

Was charging £7.35 a bale for a 6 layers fusion bale (wrap included)
6 layers wrapped and stacked was £8.50 (wrap included) any damaged bales seen were always fully rewrapped again.
Baling only £3.50 a bale always plenty of netwrap used.
Cut back considerably this year due to a new project but had been baling over 20,000 bales a year upto this year

Perhaps there is a more up to date thread running on prices? Been hearing all kinds of oddities regarding pricing this year - what is it at up your way @Boohoo
Anyone with a bit of sense is £7.25 or £7.50 baled, netted and wrapped with 4 layers. Contractor supplying the wrap and diesel. Every extra 2 layers adds £1. Don't know how much film on film is, only 1 contractor in our area offers it.
What sort of prices are you hearing?
