This is a confidence trick. They knew it wasnt going to happen, so could vote for a rise with no fear it would occur.

In the same way as a political party in opposition will say the government is wrong in anything it does, and suggest golden elephants for all if they get in. Then get in and change nothing.

You have to look long an hard for a time when nominal government spending, or nominal numbers of civil servants, fell.
You are seriously overestimating these people imo. The Peter Principle on acid.

I'm on a base rate tracker mortgage and could get a 2 year deal for a fair bit less per month, but then I can't get back onto my old deal again. I had 10 very cheap years though. Hardly know what to do
Stick imo. If I was to take out a 10 year bank loan I think unless the margin over base was ridiculous going variable, I wouldn’t be fixing for that sort of period it could turn out to be hugely expensive. Hire purchase is like that just now, the fixed rate you are signing up to has got very high if you are taking it over 5 years say

We were on a variable rate , I moved to a fixed reasonably quick, Thankfully like yourself we have had the full time of low rates on the mortgage. With only 7 years to go I fixed for 5 and tbh I'm glad as we already have a year past us so only 4 more fixed to go . It can roll out on that .

Its all bo##ocks really. Inflation has dropped which means things havent got cheaper, they just arent getting dearer as fast as they were. Government thinks its all rosey but council tax is rising ,councils are going bust and they havent the money to repair our shocking roads etc . They must have rose tinted glasses on. BOE will keep rates as they are tomorrow by the sounds.

Can’t help feeling that after watching the news tonight that politics in this country is fecked, just like with Brexit they have no interest in what’s good for the country they are only interested in themselves, as for the House of Lords what a waste of space that has now become.
Which ever party is in power will make little difference the countries on a downward spiral.

I’m not sure they care about progress for our economy. 2% inflation is too low it will stifle businesses far too much. 2023 saw more businesses go bust than ever before
Many businesses were living on borrowed time prior to COVID. I'm not saying it's BBLs orfurloughing that's come back to bite them in the arse but many companies were zombified, I heard.

Explain why 3%+ inflation is good? Isn't that just a dog chasing its own tail? Fun exercise but pointless and gets us nowhere.
