bantam Question?

OH has a few bantams and hens. One of the birds has taken some sort of skin disease on its face. The skin is very dry and flaky, and one eye has to be bathed open, she rubs a bit of baby oil on it to try and help. Anyone know what this may be, or what way to treat it? Could it be contagious?

Sure it is not mites? Shine a torch into a dark corner of the hen house and if lots of black dots move, its mites. They like to live in the roofing felt during the day and suck the hens blood at night. Usually causes scales on the legs and feet, but can cause it on the head. Two solutions - burn hen house, or oddly, spray liberally with coke (the drink, not the white stuff). The sugar or something in the coke kills them.

But she has a gooey eye?
Looking a bit under the weather, hunched up, funny colour sh1t?
A lot of poultry ailments have very similar symptoms!
I would suggest 1ml of aramycin into the breast but tbh chances are She will be a gonna!
If its microplasmosis then it's highly contagious, and culling would be the best bet also change the water and clean the drinkers/feeders etc
You can also get a soluble powder to put in the water for x days I think it is auramycin? Speak to your vet about that, you may need to ave a certain number of birds to get that!
