I’m after a trio or quartet of something purebred and pretty. Something like OEG, Barnvelder, Wyandotte, Rhode Islands, Belgians, Perkins etc.

Near Buxton, Derbyshire

I bought a small one for about £40, but the treadle itself is plastic and I think the hinge is wearing. An all metal one would be better.

Before I bought one most of the chicken food went towards supporting the local rats & jackdaws. It will have paid for itself several times over by now!

These are not as robust as the expensive New Zealand ones but unfortunately that one was stolen out of a big chicken run so I bought these cheaper ones last year, definitely reduced wastage although all our birds in pens at present due to bird flu restrictions so wildlife cannot help themselves.

Thanks all for your help. I had some Sabelpoots from Herman in the end. I ended up picking up some Blue Orpingtons from someone local too.

That’ll do me for now. Those silkies are tempting though!!
