I need to buy about 1500 hawthorn hedge plants. Anyone got any good suggestions for where to buy?

Also @Clive is it worth having a stewardship section for topics and ideas about where to source capital items and seed etc for CSS and mid tier agreements ?

Don't go for too big a plant, 2nd year saplings are better in my opinion, any thing older seems slower to establish. Plant in good time whilst still dormant. Protection is vital, trim very lightly to promote thickening after a couple of seasons growth. Leave in the bag if you are unable to plant immediately but leave open to avoid sweating .

I would plant them in the ground in the garden before I got round to planting them, rather than keep in the bags, when I worked for Wyevale we used to call it putting them in the plunge

Excellent advice, when I was in the business the number of complaints we had about dead plants , but when you asked about whether they followed the advice on keeping the roots damp you normally had a very flustered reply.
One man took 250,000 a year for several years and he always was very happy with the quality.
Another who had 25,000 which all died admitted he knew nothing about how the plants were handled as had been off skiing and he used a ganger to put the trees in, We would not replace them a second the next year

and when I plant them, I am OCD about letting the roots dry out when I am up in the hedge, I don't know if that matters, but I make sure they don't get dry.
