Hi, need some help with my old barford sx5000 dumper. It has decided to stop going forward and only move in reverse!!. If i swap the plugs on the directional solenoids it changes to only going forward with no reverse , is this telling me that the directional Solenoid valve is faulty or what ever is at the other end of the plugs is playing up? Sorry if this is a silly question I really am a novice with this sort of thing.

Presumably you are now getting forward by moving the f/r switch(shuttle lever) backwards but no reverse when moving it forwards? This suggests the f/r switch is faulty in the forward side or there is a broken wire between the forward side of the switch and the plug on the solenoid. The fact that it will go either way means both solenoids are working and the transmission is ok which just leaves the f/r switch or wiring.
I think...

Yes that’s exactly what’s happening, I’ve already tried a new f/r switch albeit a different model with same problem so I’m guessing it’s as you say a wiring fault from solenoid to switch
Thanks for your help 👍🏻

Barford SX models usually have a bank of relays behind the panel in front of your knees. They seem to get plenty of moisture in the pins and the relay contacts go duff. I'd check these next as power doesn't travel straight from the FWD/REV switch it goes through a relay for forward or a separate relay for reverse....
