Battery dehorner

Morning all,

Thinking of getting a battery calf dehorner, just wanted your thoughts on them if your using them?
Also what ones do you think are best?

Currently using the old gas one which works fine but thinking a battery one will be better for anything calving our?

Bypass the battery one and get the budex gass one. The cartrages last well and it is a much better bit of kit IMO

We have a nearly new horn up rechargeable for sale.Bought it to replace gas one but find it a bit too big/bulky, others may disagree @Northeastfarmer

We've got the horn up one. It's brilliant, it's on a timer, six seconds a side.
Cauterizes around the bud so no need to scoop the bud out.
We are really pleased with ours.

I used to use a horn up on my neighbours cattle and didn't like it, particularly on newborns.
I also find it too bulky and awkward, like carrying a hair dryer about.

I much prefer my Ritchie Portasol, small, handy and you can burn out a tiny bud on a new born calf without having to burn the full ring which is often overkill.

Well I don’t find it bulky, fits in my hand perfectly....ironically the battery has just packed in on mine after 3/4 years use...I was contemplating buying another battery for it or buying a portable gas one....we are using paste on all this years calves as a trial

Struggled to get the hang of it, does it beep when it’s hot enough or when the 7 seconds is up

Hold the button in, put it on the bud.....it will beep after 7 seconds and shut down.
I do each horn twice....once without moving it and the second time I twist it around the made circle....leave the bud and the Jobs done
