Battery powered grinder

Mikita 4.5 inch is real good. I have one plus a drill that uses the same battery. Impressed with both:)
Which makita do you have?
I had an 18v 3ah but it's the 1 makita tool I've been disappointed with.
However I bought some more makita tools with 4ah batteries and 'modified ' my grinder so it would take the 4ah batteries and it was a different beast altogether - until I burned it out!

If I replace it I would have the latest brushless model that will take the 4 or 5ah batteries. That looks real good.

OP, what cordless tools do you already have? Imo it makes a lot of sense keeping all the same brand so batteries and charger are interchangeable. But I would be looking for latest generation brushless.

Nothing else has the same torque. It's as near to a corded grinder as you get.

The brushless "fuel" is also one of, if not indeed the best for battery life.

+1 Chap who sometimes works for me has the "Milwaukee set" of tools and I thought the grinder would be useless but as above a bloody good piece of kit.

Also v.disappointed with Makita 3ah. Batteries lasted just over 12mth guarantee period. Still working but battery life very poor.
Ought to try 4ah replacements.
Battery grinder idea however is brilliant, lots of jobs would be a ball ache if you had to run out leads just for 5 min job.

Beware just putting a 4 or 5ah batteries in the old grinder. It will only fit if you cut off a tab and as said is a different tool with the bigger batteries, but I suspect that is why I burned it out!

There's an 'oz talk' review comparing milwaukee and makita latest generation brushless grinders on YouTube and they reckon there's nothing to choose between them. They actually come down on the side of makita as they prefer the switch type.

The Milwaukee switch on mine is annoying. It has a little plastic lock tab that must be rotated before the switch is pressed. It's a bit fiddly if you're wearing welding gloves.

I read that you can specify a sliding switch in America now, but I don't know if it's available here.

I got my Milwaukee fuel from eBay in america delivered for 200 euro incl taxes. Has standard type on off push switch. Very good and handy. Batteries are 3 and 4ah could buy the 5ah but for half the price of one 5ah I get two 3ah batteries. Think more is better as its better to have them all charged before a big days work then waiting on charger

Makita 18v had for years as part of a set ( drill driver torch etc)
The grinder eats batteries, but I amassed 7 batteries over the years, don't use it much these days but for a quick cut off job like a bolt or bracket, it's very handy

I have 18v Bosch with 3amp batteries. The bigger the battery the heavier it is.
Great tool.
Think before you buy as you are buying into a system. You will want to extend your cordless range over time by buying other tools that use the same batteries.
For that reason I would go with something that is going to last.
