Battery Powered Sheep Shears

Hi,

Whilst continuing to set out my list of items that will be required for moving into the scary world of sheep, I was wondering if a set of the above would be a wise purchase for sorting out potential Sh!ty Arsez as I do not fancy using hand shears to be honest.

Thanks for your input.

Kind regards

Jay

Yes have horner rambo here. Very handy for going through big group instead of running them all through race, and for shearing the odd one thats escaped the gathering off the mountain!

Hi,

Are they able to be driven with a battery mounted on a belt - as I could only see them listed for mains or 12v vehicle battery etc?

@Ukjay , if you're only planning on having a handful of sheep, a pair of Dakoti hand shears (£25) will be more than adequate for cleaning off the odd dag. If you're feeling keen you could even take up blade shearing too.....

I take it you've decided against shedding sheep then?:D

Hi neilo,

I do not trust myself with scissors, as I have heard those are really sharp, hence why I thought about battery operated ones, as I am used to handling them - as you may have seen from the farm dog thread

No, not at all. I am thinking that even shedders can need dagging - obviously may be wrong here, but would hate to be in a position of not having the correct kit to hand.

I have a masterclip set. Not very powerful, but an awful lot easier to dag shyte off fat lambs with in the wet than using traditional hand shears.

Yes it has a battery on the belt, only comes with 1 battery though. i think its 2 hours running time. Lucky my mate has the rambo aswell so we lend spare battery to one another. Battery expensive to buy

Rambo is a brilliant bit of kit handy for taking out to the field it would stand clipping lots of full sheep but will do the odd one I think if you are planning on clipping full sheep maybe the Horner 12v machine they attach to a car battery

We have these, constantly attached to the mule battery, lives behind the seat.

I've got a handypiece, it's got a lithium battery which the Rambo hasn't, I crutched 100 ewes with it yesterday, and it doesn't seem to have dropped charge at all. I wouldn't have wanted to have been without it this summer.

Thanks SJH,

They are the top end of the scale, so obviously get what you pay for. What I want to avoid, is having to buy twice if the sheep venture causes us to increase the flock numbers if we get to grips with the husbandy etc, so food for thought here.

If your just starting out and don't want the expense in case you don't carry on with sheep I highly recommend jakoti hand shears the best £25 you'll ever spend

As commented above really, I do not trust myself with scissors on a live animal that doesn't really want me anywhere near it, as I have read that they are extremely sharp etc.

I have used shears on other animals, so feel more confident in their use, and hopefully would be less stressful for the animal.
