Battery Storage worth it? £75,000 rent, 4 acres

But if the company has disappeared in a puff of smoke?
Bond should cover it... My Agent has been pursuing this one hard. Bond funding from Day One too.

Plans I saw for container bank, were essentially small plinths to support the containers.

I don't think many are looking at the all in one shed now, which seemed to be the proposal 3-4 years ago at the Telford Renewable show.

I've been offered £75,000 by a firm who want to lease 4 acres of my land to build a battery storage farm.

Does anyone have experience in what the rents are in the battery storage market? £75,000 for 4 acres is a lot of money!

Does anyone have a battery storage farm and what is it like?
I reckon I could answer that question myself quicker than I typed this.

Did the project come to fruition? If it hasn't been developed yet I would like to look at the option
What is the earning capacity of 1mw of storage?

Have been approached with a wide range of rental values for a battery storage facility, and not sure which option to go for.The highest value proposal may have more risk attached and sometimes a ’bird in the hand’ is the best option, however I have been unable to find out how much earning capacity each megawatt of capacity has at present with current electricity prices and how much room for negotiation there is?

That is why you retain a good Agent who specialises in this area....

a few grand well spent now, will reward you many times over.

Rental will depend a lot on the cost of the connection to the Grid.

DNO shafting many with unexpected delays of 24+ months.

If anyone gets anything done on time atm they are doing v well
Had some disappointing news last week as the DNO has effectively withdrawn the capacity that was previously available on the HV line "my" project was going into. WPD seem to be looking for the Developers to cover all the costs in upgrades now, which for me, has made it uneconomic at this time. Looking at a 10 year lead time and a massive battery farm which would not work on the site... 250MW+ !!!

Inside info "from a friend", is that WPD who have been bought out, have effectively stopped all pro-active work on improvements and upgrades to infrastructure!! Reactive and emergency work only.

I do wonder if they are waiting on Govt funding instead for needed upgrades??

Yep. Bojo must be furious....oh, wait a minute!!

But it is a farcial state of affairs with DNO's putting their heads in the air, going la la la....
I’m not surprised ref infrastructure upgrading. Ticking time bomb.

This is happening a lot from what Ive told, once they take your money suddenly it’s not possible
I think the crowd I was linked up with were playing canny on putting too much up front, as this seems commonplace ATM..

WPD were pretty damned good until recently and were spending a lot on infrastructure. Largely due to a top flight CEO who had engineers blood in his veins, as opposed to pure bean counter! 🤷‍♂️

Sorry about the bad news fella, I'm waiting on hearing soon myself. Only need 10acres for that? Would be a huge rental figure, are you sure you can't connect elsewhere? 10 years be round in no time. 🤣

Yeah, 10acres as you say. However, I am pretty sure the Planners will jib at a larger site on the particular location.... 2-3 acre site can be snuck in.

I am getting to the age when 10 years seem a long time... ;) However, I do have a related project in mind too, so we'll see how that pans out first.

We have a 40MW site on our 'farm'. Fits in nicely, Rent is index linked. Developers were Di**h**ds, but current owners very amenable. What's not to like.
The only issue for me is if I have a waste disposal problem at some point, but I'm prepared to take the risk.

Did you not have a reinstatement bond set up to cover potential costs ?
