Seems some vege American did a survey and the good old Beeb have of coarse picked up on it !
Just read the abstract here https://nutrition.bmj.com/content/early/2021/05/18/bmjnph-2021-000272

There's so much wrong with that that it's a stretch to call it a "study". They only looked at 568 Covid cases across 6 countries and all were done by contacting healthcare workers regarding "self reported dietary information". Did they determine all the confounders?

It says nothing reliable yet, as you say, the BBC jump on it.

I wonder who funded the study....?

What are they hoping to achieve? In the future, youngsters aren't going to watch TV hence won't need the BBC. Even i need reminding from my elderly mother to pay the licence fee, if they alienate the elderly generation I can't see it surviving.

I've just heard back from Zoë Harcombe that it's the subject of her "Monday note" next week. I'll post an excerpt but t can't post her full comments as that's for her subscribers only.
Been wondering whether to subscribe or not for a while, I do think it's a bit pricey to subscribe indefinitely.

The media will report absolutely anything, and give equal weight to utter garbage poorly designed food surveys that come to odd conclusions and trumpet tiny differences in relative risk as something important, and then top quality randomised control trials or metanalyses that review large numbers of quality studies. BBC are just one of an embarrassing bunch. I really can't be bothered to click on the link, soz.
