Was wondering if many people are going to be reducing there been acerages this year on the back of this year's disappointing crops.

Also what break crop they are looking to replace it with or if continious wheat is a better option for some of you

Spring beans being dropped here mostly because they don’t fit any blocks of fields, osr and spring oat area is increased instead.

As above, you can’t control the weather but this year is yet another reminder why spring break crops are the weak link in the rotation.

I dropped Springs 2 years ago, still grow some Winters cheaply for feed as they are far better for BG control and, here at least are more reliable.

Not a total disaster here and one load sold @ £220/t means they will break even again...

Same area again, next year Rodney !!

Winters very poor here but expect to have a few more next year because of field sizes.

Spring barley - drilled 4th May, 2.5t/acre and lots of straw. Chuffed and relieved!

Good decision. Did it malt as well? If so icing on the cake! I note that late sown Spring Barley has done in general reasonably well in Lincs - 2.25 - 2.75 t/acre or so.

Doh - just read your second post - see N was 1.89, so hopefully crept in for a malt premium. Good call changing from beans to barley.

Saturday 2 June - did you catch those thunderstorms that day? Was a lot of rain north of Boston that day - localised but some places had upto 70mm.

Think local downpours seem to have made spring cropping this year.

We didn't have one day with more than 10mm of rain between 1st of May and the biblical storms on 28th July, so our barley was very plain.
