Bean virgin

Just cracked into the first field of S Beans I’ve ever combined.
Having a few issues,
1, Have the top sieves wide open and wind on full but have the quandary of Beans going over the back and empty pods in the sample.
2, can’t get the Beans to flow from the standing crop side of the header, so keep bunging the header auger unless I have the reel in the crop

And it’s not as if the crops dirty

Any advice appreciated

Stopped at the mo, MF build quality strikes again [emoji849]

Got your top auger running I assume, helps a lot.
For my winter beans I made a couple if different dividers.
Basically aluminium scaffolding cut and welded so they pish through higher up and anything low gets pushed down to the knife.
Works very well.

Used to fly through springs when I grew them without bother though.

Put reel in. Open concave/slow drum? We put strips of aluminium over those plastic bits on a similar axial flow.
I'm on the right track then, reels right in, concave is well wide and drum could be slower but then the belt slips and drum stops, so compromised on speed, but not splitting beans, so happy with tha, just need to sort the feed now then. Ally strips sound like a good idea (y)

Side knife would help, I think I’m going to put mine on before I attempt mine. Try closing your back sieve a little.
That's all the encouragement I needed for the side knife, will come in handy on there, have 2 acres of OSR to do for someone as well now

Beans hanging on side can only be down to them not being divided cleanly.

Any answer yet on concave filler plates ????

And the reel bushes will only brake from heavy work. The big advantage of a powerflow is you barely need the reel.

All ready been said but I used that builders strip they use for tying wood onto brickwork . The stuff that looks a bit like mecanno .
Those reels are like chocolate compared to many .
When cutting beans I have to the top sieve at around 19mm bottom about 14 mm slow drum speed 400- 475 rpm fan high and drive at them to get them to flow and load the combine . As for reel height I try to have it hitting them about 3/4 there height and may be a little faster than with wheat .
That's with a 1030 header on a axilflow anyhow hope it helps.

Just another thought can you lift the divider up so it is higher at the point . on 1030 headers you can lift them by adjusting a support plate where they go through the header main frame at the front .

Hmm, did wonder if the divider would be needed, but that got destroyed last year ( black land and dividers aren’t always friends ) and not been needed in Barley or Wheat since.

My bean settings were
Both sieves wide open.
Fan flat out
Drum about 750 (saves keep unblocking the bugger)
Rs fast and wide

Didn't realise you were going without a divider.
Spring beans would go with one most likely.
I'll be at the combine later trying linseed, I'll get a picture.

Bolts up the front of the header.
Could have been a lower angle as I did occasionally get some hanging at the bottom of it.

Had a go at the Beans again today
Repaired a divider, but that just made lumps, although the rest of the header flowed well.

Then tried the side knife and thankfully that was a success [emoji4]

All goes well tomorrow Beans should be finished ?
