What breed of fat lambs do they sell at Oswestry? They always seem to be way below the market average elsewhere.

I've never been but I'd imagine they'd get a few Welsh lambs in there, as well as plenty of Lowland continental crosses.

They'd be weighing on arrival (like all markets down here), so p/kg will always be below Northern marts. Maybe their scales are more accurate than a few of the other local marts? I'd take any mart reports with a pinch of salt, unless you're actually there....

I always used to wonder that and was passing one Wednesday so went in for breakfast and a look at the lambs. What I saw there was a good show of lambs but what I would have said we're a touch under finished. I'm told this is always the case.

How did they not see this coming after halving the national kill for weeks with protests just before the seasonal peak

Everyone in this area is getting out of sucklers not into them
Agree. Bought some second class Angus x dairy bulls the other day, could have had my pick and several yards if I’d wanted. 6 month old 270kg around £320 average.
should make £1000 fat all day long. Makes me wonder why I bother with my 7/8 red lims (because I am a proud of them and whilst they wash their face financially, they keep my hunger for farming going).

What is barren cow trade like atm? Our local market has put a post on Facebook that cows are wanted this Monday, and I've never seen them post anything like that before.
We've got several cows to go, so I wouldn't be surprised if trade drops now ?
Well in answer to my own question, we took 2 cows in on Monday. Both made 128p/kg, which we didn't think was too bad. Both pure Blondes, 6 & 7yrs old. Bit disappointed with how the old cow weighed though.

Anyone see rearing calves sold at Carlisle today? I had intended to go and maybe buy a few but recovery from injury and work backing up dictated otherwise. Report says they were back a bit.
It wasn't as good a show of calves as 3 weeks earlier, the very top would maybe be a similar trade and while the bottom end 3 weeks ago struggled, this week they sold better in spite of there being a lot more of them in. These types were sought after by one man in particular and if he wasn't there they might have struggled to sell.
