A question that will make a lot of you lot laugh but to make a store lamb does it have to be castrated? We have a few (120) males here that are fattening ok just on grass but just wondering if they could become store lambs?

As long as you declare that they're tup lambs, they can be sold as stores. There's a Muslim festival coming up (July 19) and sheep with nuts will be in demand, so bear that in mind.

Would of thought quite a few. Bit confused as the estate doesn't have much grass and what is there the 30 cows have.
my guess would be the arable farm is looking too untilize the benefits of sheep while using grass as a break crop too combat blackgrass so not too fussed about making money just it wiping its own arse... although I’d of thought needs too be 600+ too pay a mans wage full time and then he’d still have plenty time on his hands too help on tractors if needs be.... share farming opportunity would be more appropriate in my eyes for such scenarios because the farm gets the benefit of the sheep... a slight income stream and some control... without the drama and hassle and the shepherd has some motivation because he owns part of the pie

Yes but costs this year are much higher ( and rising fast by the day ) than previous years!

Just had an email to tell me my sheep feed is going up another £14 ton this week for example!

Sedge today SQQ was back 40.09 ppk or to put it another way about £17 for a 42 kilo lamb on last week!

The people going to be hit by such a fast drop in lamb prices will be store lamb sellers if the price keeps on dropping at this rate for long!
£100/head should be the minimum for todays costs, for terminal sired lambs. 40kg or so @ 250p. If it falls below that, they want keeping at home.

I wonder where it will end up in a few weeks?
It usually drops a bit after the festival and a bit when the store lambs appear
Mine are never ready before the summer drop, always try too sell a ruck before the post festival drop but it’s far too early for me this time. That’s why I’ve kept these hoggs so I can still sell something on the trade... 😉😁
