Yes, nice stuffy ewes, tops was 88. Not a big number in really, archie flew threw them, l guess that's about all the breeding sales finished now, l got 30 tex x, correct, 108. Could do with afew more to allow for dead ones. Amazing how the season goes past. No time since first store sales.

Suckled calves looked a fair trade in Bakewell today, from the bits I saw on the live stream. Plenty up round £1000, think the only one I saw less than £700 was an Angus cross

I have no idea what wheat or barley costs to put in but it will be bloody dear now. Fert is just part of it and no point loosing the rest because of not having it.

Wheat and winter barley over £300 an acre before this price rise.
I'm hopefully covered but next June will be interesting.

Yes thanks for that last I was told it was £140 so must have been a bit back. Sometimes you have to spend a bit more as a type of insurance not to loose what’s already been done!

Lambs (5761) averaged £71.44 (last year £57.69) and sold to £124 gross for a pen of Texel crosses from Garnish Farm, Aviemore.

Ewes (853) sold to £152 gross for a pen of Suffolk crosses from Muckernich Farms, Tore.

Gimmers (140) sold to £162 gross for a Texel cross from Muckernich Farms.

Feeding Sheep (595) sold to £350 gross for a Texel Ram from 6/10 Airdens, Bonar Bridge.

In the run up to xmas i can see the live ring outperforming dead by an increasing margin, farm shops and local butchers with shorter supply chains are going to be very busy and will be buying more stock while the large firms with staff and logistic issues are going to get bogged down. Like during covid the general public will return to local outlets if the supermarkets cannot supply what they want too regardless of cost. Slaughterhouses are desperate for cattle but they struggling to process them.
The one man band turkey sellers will make a mint this xmas too with the big firms having similiar logistic issues

Its going to happen but its going to be a food supply issue not a food shortage one.

Thanks for that I will be feeding it with a finishing blend. How many kilos of it could I feed a day to replace the meal?

Was just thinking the same. With Barley approaching £200,Davidsons are quoting £262-£285 depending on quality.By the time you crush the barley and add something to it,there is not much in it. Will be interesting to see if the feed mills manage to hold their winter price runs through to Spring this season.

I’ve a price locked in for winter , more than a little more than Davidson’s but always is , get what you pay for tho .
