I cant remember but i think they were Ministry men in those days.It paid not to complain or they would go through the pen again and mark some more "rejects".

They marked them up with green paint if they had too many you were guaranteed to get rejects which you had to take home often rejected overfat too and they had to be fat in those days

I used to go to Tyneside on a Friday it’s a B and Q now most folk don’t remember it

Used to take fat cattle amd lambs on a monday all i csn remember if you entered the mart through the front doors to the right was the cattle ring left was the sheep pens cant remember if theyvwete put through a ring or not went to ponteland after that then it closed tried hexham and bishop auckland its closed now as well now use mainly darlington and very occasionally hexham

Aye,it was a steep click up from the Newburn/Lemington road. The Directors or owners must have got paid out quick when they sold ,the mart seemed to shut overnight.

Used to hate having to wait and pull away again with a bedford
tk with a load of big bullocks on

Think monday was mainly clean cattle and young bulls along with lambs friday was mainly geld cows and sheep if i remember correctly went most mondays and a odd friday would drop cows off then along to hexham store sale

One day a fairly nearby neighbour (bit of a clever sort) passed father and me in the wagon in the bank queue, passed many vehicles. A certain haulier from Northumberland had a wagon and drag on the bank full of cattle who wasn’t best happy he proceeded to drag this fella out of the land rover and after trying to drown him in a clarty puddle sent him back to the end of the queue

No, I’ve never sold lambs at Hexham , I can remember them at Tyneside and a famous man ken Potts arguing like fek with them ! Good ole days.

I still deal with one of the Tyneside buyers , he’s getting on a bit last time I mentioned Tyneside he looked at me and just smiled ! I thjnk I made his day someone who actually vaguely remembers it !! great old bloke who I have lot of respect and time for .

Must have been late 80’s possibly very early 90’s ? I was a school skyver when I was their and I ain’t been to school for a while
