I'm suprised it's eating that hay - our Herdy crosses would rather eat them molehills than anything that we put out for them that they're supposed to eatView attachment 1011710I can imagine the conversation here. “That bloody herdwicks got out with the mules”, “don’t worry lad we will sell the ewe lambs for good money to one of those soft southern buggers!”
That will be the half mule in it, born hungry and spend most of it days on top of the feeder, that last bits probably the herdwick.I'm suprised it's eating that hay - our Herdy crosses would rather eat them molehills than anything that we put out for them that they're suppoed to eat
What’s the best way to feed hay to ewes when on grass? At the moment I have 2 groups with hay inring feeders and another 3 that lm feeding a little every day on the grassI'm suprised it's eating that hay - our Herdy crosses would rather eat them molehills than anything that we put out for them that they're suppoed to eat
I feed mine in cradles but as you can see they waste a hell of a lot of fit hay, they don’t seem to waste much wet silage at all. What’s the best way to feed hay to ewes when on grass? At the moment I have 2 groups with hay inring feeders and another 3 that lm feeding a little every day on the grass
I think, if you've time to do it, a little bit each day(so they clean it up every time) on the grass is best. That way you can feed 'em in a different place each day to save poaching round a feeder. What’s the best way to feed hay to ewes when on grass? Last time we had herdy wethers £48 out of Skipton mid December. when it got too spring they went on the hoppers, the highest place in the field was the hopper lids. every day they were all laid on top of them. Did alright though for all they were oddThat will be the half mule in it, born hungry and spend most of it days on top of the feeder, that last bits probably the herdwick.
Yep 100's of thousands of them aboutAhhh, a well known type of feeding sheep then!
That’s the main thing!!Yep 100's of thousands of them about
They were just something to buy to eat the grass that didn't cost 100 quid
TBH they haven't hurt
Hoggs topped out at £2.63!? Oh dear!
I think you're probably right and if there is any left, then it's more thinly spread across the field. And if it gives a ewe a drier, warmer lie and rots back into the soil, is it really waste anyway? At least that's what I tell myself as they pull £125/T hay out of the ring feeder and drop itI think, if you've time to do it, a little bit each day(so they clean it up every time) on the grass is best. I don't think the 'ideal' method exists, or else we would be all doing it
