Beef / Lamb & Pig Price Tracker

What they are making now needs to be the lowest over the next few months and even then current prices are not on fire in the real world like some auctioneers think they are!!

If these prices are not the lowest over the next few months then i would not want to be selling breeders come July/August etc.

Maybe but the last thing sheep farmers should be saying at the current time with input prices where they are is that they are happy with the current low price of prime animals because in real terms lamb prices are down at least 20% on 12 months ago once you take input inflation into account.

Well we know that but is it really a bad thing to be pleased they have lifted??

And if it is a 40% cut in lamb prices in real terms then the outlook for the sheep sector is very dire going forwards!
Well if you consider feed has been up probably 20% since Christmas or more now then add fuel then take off 40p a kilo that would roughly get a 40% drop unless you are on grass which still leaves you 20/30% short

I do wish you would cheer up a bit.
Based on last autumns purchase prices and this winters costs the Hogg trade is far from being a disaster although last years prices would have been great but in my opinion unlikely.
As for the future, We are all aware that costs are rising and prices need to rise to maintain margins, but constantly telling us how badly we are selling stock and on the other hand telling us how bad the breeders will be this autumn. 😟😟
I’ve moved a packet of ewe lambs this afternoon and based on your projections I can’t decide whether to take a sh-te price for them now or an even worse price for them as breeders in the autumn ???
